Navigating Challenges in ESG Assurance
It Is Critical for Companies to Anticipate Complexities as the Reporting Landscape Evolves ESG assurance, also known as assurance over non-financial data, is a nascent and evolving field. There is diversity in practice in terms of the information subject to assurance and the level of assurance sought.
Which Level of Assurance is Best for Your ESG Reporting?
The decision has meaningful implications for budget, time commitment, and confidence in your reporting. Obtaining assurance on environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting is a critical competitive differentiator, as we explained previously. Once a company commits to engaging with an audit firm, key decision makers must determine what level of assurance to seek. How to Avoid Greenwashing in Corporate Sustainability Reporting
A nightmare scenario A retail giant was in the news. Its brand reputation, revenues and potential for litigation were all at risk. Sustainability teams had invested time and resources into a new supply chain tracking system and were going to market with a “green” product line in their retail clothing stores. But soon after the rollout, they began hearing rumblings from environmental activists, then from the mainstream media.
The CFO’s Role in ESG

Letter to the editor: Inslee sign not appreciated
Dear Fat Moose Bar and Grill of Woodland, Washington: Even though I dislike cancel culture, I am no longer your customer because I find your "Welcome to King Inslee's Beer Garden" sign offensive.
Theater review: 'Glengarry Glen Ross' is hard-hitting
Though it won a Pulitzer Prize and a Tony Award in 1984, David Mamet's “Glengarry Glen Ross” remains a little produced and little-known gem outside of the thespian-insider world. It seems the perfect choice for What A Do Theatre, known for the cutting-edge. And the Springfield theater furthers its reputation by mixing the all-male cast with a woman (Betsy King) in the role of loud-mouthed Dave Moss, now just Moss.
Review: 'Outsiders' has the energy of youth
The What A Do Theatre of Springfield is known for taking chances. For its first show of the 2017 calendar year, it produces an adaptation of S.E. Hinton’s classic young adult novel “The Outsiders,” which features a cast almost entirely under the age of 18. At times the performances are rough, like wood sculpture not yet completely hewn, partial shavings curl near the surface, but this roughness fits the show and its world of rumbles and street violence.
Review: 'Schooner' has the Christmas spirit
At the opening night for What A Do Theatre’s “The Christmas Schooner,” director Randy Wolfe admitted he feels old. “Many of the cast members who played children when we did this show in 2011 are now in adult roles,” he said. Though the casting may remind Wolfe of how young actors grow, the show does not make audiences feel old; instead it fills them with the Christmas spirit and the joy of giving.
Review: 'Peter and the Starcatcher' proves it has star stuff
SPRINGFIELD - What A Do Theatre (WAD) celebrates the opening of its seventh season with what it does best: Producing the best in cutting-edge theater in the modern vein. Friday night WAD opened “Peter and the Starcatcher,” a play barely as old as the theater itself — it first debuted in 2009.
Theater review: 'Singin' in the Rain' makes a splash
AUGUSTA – When an audience leaves a theater humming and whistling the tunes, it’s a winner. The Barn Theatre scored a big winner with the film-classic-turned-musical “Singin’ in the Rain” on Tuesday night. The story of the early days of Hollywood enjoyed some local love when a couple was invited up on stage during the pre-show speech for a marriage proposal. The groom, who had arranged the special moment with the Barn staff, bent down on one knee and proposed.
Theater review: 'Little Mermaid' dazzles under the sea
It’s rare that the audience is as entertaining as a musical production, but on Tuesday night at the Barn Theatre, dozens of little princesses in training roamed the aisles to catch bubbles and sang along to the familiar and joyous music of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” while shushed by their mothers.
Review: 'Jesus Christ Superstar' rocks the Barn
Before Tuesday’s opening night performance, Brandon Ragotzy of the Barn Theatre asked for a show of hands: How many people had never seen “Jesus Christ Superstar”? Many raised their hands in the mostly full house. There are some shows that must be seen and Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s “Jesus Christ Superstar” is one such show. It’s essential viewing for everyone, whether interested in theater or not, Christian or otherwise.
Review: 'Buyer & Cellar' is a smart satire of fame
After an absence of several years, Barn Theatre favorite Scott Burkell returns for ‘‘Buyer & Cellar,’’ the second strong offering in the summer stock’s 70th anniversary season. In a tour de force of almost two hours on stage, Burkell shows his enormous charm and talent in this one-man show about the special job secured by actor Alex More after he is fired from his job at Disneyland. A runaway hit and winner of a Drama Desk award, it has wowed critics and audiences alike.
Review: What A Do tells powerful story of Anne Frank
Anne Frank felt Nazi Germany was a phase, a temporary condition, and that society would eventually outgrow it. "People are essentially good," she writes in her famous diary. The What A Do Theatre of Springfield brings to life the story of this extraordinary young girl, her family and the others with whom she hid from the Nazis during the Holocaust.
Theater review: KCC takes a trip to 'Loserville'
There are no losers in “Loserville.” The Kellogg Community College’s Arts and Communication department launched its spring musical production last weekend with a high-energy, nerdy joyride of British pop-punk with the show “Loserville.” “More than likely, you’ve never heard of the show you’re about to see,” said director Brad Poer, “but hopefully after tonight you won’t forget it!” And the audience showed that it won’t forget by receiving the cast of “Loserville” with cheers, infectious...
Review: 'Cheaper by the Dozen' will warm hearts, tickle funny bones
Don’t go to the What A Do Theatre on Dickman Road expecting a ‘‘Cheaper by The Dozen’’ that has anything in common with the 2003 film starring Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt. Other than the large family and the two parents wrangling so many children, the play version of ‘‘Cheaper by The Dozen’’ bears no resemblance to the modern film.
Theater review: 'Streetcar Named Desire' is theatrical masterpiece
From the moment patrons step into the What A Do theatre, they are transported back in time. For the first production of 2016, What A Do launches ‘‘A Streetcar Named Desire.’’ Battle Creek’s resident professional company excels with this classic of American literature, which won the 1948 Pulitzer for Drama. It is considered to be one the greatest plays of the Twentieth Century and the best by writer Tennessee Williams.
Theater: 'Anne of Avonlea' script leaves audience flat
One year after selling out its small space multiple times with the adaptation of the children’s novel ‘‘Anne of Green Gables,’’ the What A Do Theatre launches part two of the popular saga with ‘‘Anne of Avonlea.’’ Though audiences are still delighted with the antics of the now older Anne Shirley (Averi Beck), the dramatization of this novel by Jeanette Carlisle is not nearly as well done as the first.
