To a round-bottom flask inside a N 2 -filled glovebox, 105 mg (0.14 mmol) Q 3 Sb( o -chlor) were suspended in ∼25 mL of THF. In a separate vial, 36 mg (0.07 mmol) of [CuOTf] 2 ·C 6 H 6 were suspended in ∼5 mL of THF and mixed via pipette agitation to produce a red suspension. The suspension of [CuOTf] 2 ·C 6 H 6 was then added dropwise to the vigorously stirring suspension of 2 , resulting in a yellow solution once all of the [CuOTf] 2 ·C 6 H 6 had been added.

The use of Lewis acidic main group elements as σ-acceptors, or Z-type ligands, has been of recent interest. (1−4) These efforts have resulted in a broad range of main group elements that have been incorporated as Lewis acidic sites in ligands for transition metal complexes. (2,5) Over the past two decades, studies have demonstrated the tunable nature of M→Z interactions and impact on catalytic processes using ambiphilic ligands.
