Introduction Ketamine is a widely used anesthetic and NMDA (N-Methyl-D-Aspartate) receptor antagonist that has gained attention for its rapid antidepressant effects, particularly in treatment-resistant depression. However, in the context of repeated or prolonged administration, concerns about its long-term neurobiological consequences, especially addiction and metabolic disturbances, are growing (Alnefeesi et al., 2022; Strous et al., 2022).
