Released more than 30 years ago, Mrs Doubtfire, which starred the late great Robin Williams as a prim and proper cross-dressing nanny with a refined Scots accent, was a box office smash around the world. But while William's legendary character was certainly made up, it wasn't a complete work of fiction - Mrs Doubtfire, it turns out, was actually based on an eccentric, and, reportedly foul-mouthed, Aberdeen-born shopkeeper.

Dundee care home jewellery thief threw precious stolen items in Tay, court hears

Priceless jewellery belonging to elderly Dundee residents was thrown into the River Tay by a thief who raided a care home safe. Darren Mackie fell asleep outside the front of Forebank Care Home shortly after forcing his way in through a window. On the same day, CCTV footage picked up the 47-year-old bizarrely stealing a swing bin from a sheltered housing complex. Mackie will be sentenced next year after he pled guilty to the September 2023 crimes.

Drink-driver 'lucky' not to kill anyone in police chase through St Andrews

Pedestrians had to jump out of the way as a drink-driver blitzed through the centre of St Andrews in a stolen car while being chased by police. Blue lights were activated as officers pursued Lewis Conroy’s car at high speeds on a Saturday night. The chase was abandoned by police who deemed it too dangerous to carry on but Conroy is now remanded in custody after pleading guilty to dangerous driving while more than double the drink-drive limit (51mics/ 22) on November 15.
