Cardiovascular Risk Factors and the Risk of Discontinuation of Advanced Therapies Due to Treatment Failure in Rheumatoid Arthritis: Results From the Ontario Best Practices Research Initiative
INTRODUCTION There is a well-established association between rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Chronic inflammation and a high prevalence of traditional CVD risk factors—which are often underdiagnosed and undertreated—contribute to the excess CVD risk for RA patients.1 The presence of CVD risk factors can have a significant impact on overall RA care and outcomes.
How Echos Amplify: The Power of ECHO Rheumatology for Group Practice to Manage Inflammatory Arthritis & Autoimmune Disease
Abstract CONTEXT: Project ECHO is a guided practice model that increases workforce capacity to provide best-practice specialty care and reduce health disparities. It is well-suited to rheumatology care delivery in Ontario, as the number of rheumatologists in the province has remained static despite the growing prevalence and burden of rheumatic disease. Consequently, there remain striking disparities in access to care, particularly in rural and remote areas across the province.
Similar Time to Remission in Late-Onset vs Younger-Onset RA
Abstract and Introduction Abstract Background: The prevalence of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in persons 60 years or older is estimated to be 2%. Late-onset rheumatoid arthritis (LORA) is traditionally defined as the onset of RA after the age of 60 years. Compared to younger-onset rheumatoid arthritis (YORA) which occurs before the age of 60 years, LORA has unique characteristics and disease manifestations. To date, few reports have addressed LORA and the prognosis of LORA patients remains unclear.
