Hydrothermally Synthesized Red-Emissive Porphyrin Silicon Nanoparticles (pSiNPs) for Photo-Induced Synergistic Therapy on Cancer Cells
Abstract Click to copy section linkSection link copied! Silicon-based nanoparticles (SiNPs), with low toxicity and good biocompatibility, have been investigated for their applications in a wide variety of cell labeling approaches. However, SiNPs are frequently reported to have a strong blue emission and not the more advantageous red-near-infrared (NIR) emission.
Concurrent Brain Subregion Microgliosis in an HLA-II Mouse Model of Group A Streptococcal Skin Infection
1. Introduction β-hemolytic Group A Streptococcus (Streptococcus pyogenes, GAS) is an important human pathogen that causes a broad spectrum of clinical presentations ranging from mild self-limiting pharyngitis and skin infections such as cellulitis and impetigo to life-threatening and often fatal invasive infections including necrotizing fasciitis (NF, aka “flesh-eating disease”), a subset of necrotizing soft tissue infections (NSTI) [].

A Midwestern High Schooler’s Intimate, Imperfect Portrait of Adolescence
Simon and Greer huddled on a sofa. By Eren Orbey Photography by Colin Combs February 23, 2018 Simon and Greer huddled on a sofa. Far more affection than angst figures in the adolescent wasteland where the eighteen-year-old photographer Colin Combs portrays his friends, most of them high-school seniors from Dayton, Ohio. Combs’s home town is sometimes called the heroin capital of the United States.
Pet Files: More cases of the serious illness Lepto are seen by vets around Weld County now
It used to be in Weld County and Greeley, we had your farm type "outdoor" dogs and your city dogs. The farm dogs were those rough and tumble labs and heelers that worked all day and hunted all weekend. They did chores, herded, chased rabbits and swam in ditches. This was the group that vets vaccinated against the bacteria called Leptospirosis, commonly referred to as Lepto.

The conformational epitope for a new Aβ42 protofibril-selective antibody partially overlaps with the peptide N-terminal region
Aggregation and accumulation of amyloid-? peptide (A?) is a key component of Alzheimer's disease (AD). While monomeric A? appears to be benign, oligomers adopt a biologically detrimental structure. These soluble structures can be detected in AD brain tissue by antibodies that demonstrate selectivity for aggregated A?. Protofibrils are a subset of soluble oligomeric A? species and are described as small (<100 nm) curvilinear assemblies enriched in ?-sheet structure.
Amyloid precursor protein in pancreatic islets
The amyloid precursor protein (APP) has been extensively investigated for its role in the production of amyloid beta (A?), a plaque-forming peptide in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Epidemiological evidence suggests type 2 diabetes is a risk factor for AD. The pancreas is an essential regulator of blood glucose levels through the secretion of the hormones insulin and glucagon. Pancreatic dysfunction is a well-characterized consequence of type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
Norquist: Tax Reform is the Most Important Issue of 2017
Grover Norquist has shown just how desperately America needs tax reform in his latest op-ed for Fox News. After eight years of Obama and one of the worst recoveries in recent memory, the American people need a new strategy to return to healthy economic growth. To do this, we need to get government out of the way. As it stands today, the United States has the highest corporate tax rate in the world, putting us at an economic disadvantage against foreign competitors.
Pennsylvania Pension Reform Aims to Help Taxpayers and Beneficiaries
There is good news out of the Keystone State. This week Senate Bill 1, legislation that will result in meaningful pension reform, passed through both chambers of the Pennsylvania Legislature and has been sent to the desk of Gov. Tom Wolf (D), who is expected to sign the measure into law. If signed into law by Gov. Wolf, this reform would have all new state employees put into a hybrid pension system, as opposed to the current defined benefit system.
Shadow Expert, by Palm
In describing Palm to the uninitiated, it’s sometimes necessary to clarify the meaning of the group’s name by raising one’s hand in the universal symbol of greeting and goodwill. The act of corroborating the aural with the gestural occurs everywhere in their work. On their latest EP, "Shadow Expert," the syntax of popular music is regarded suspiciously and often subjected to revisions or reversals.
A Falling Gender Pay Gap
Why There's No Science In Your Salary Lauren Weber, Wall Street Journal
Lies, Damned Lies, and the 77 Percent Gender Pay Gap
A pet favorite issue of the left is their claim that women only make 77 cents for every dollar a man makes. With this fatal statistic in hand, wage justice warriors are usually quick to call for a whole new wave of regulations and pay mandates to fix such terrible and clear evidence of discrimination. The famous 77 percent statistic (79.5 percent as of 2014) is misconstrued far too often.
