Once she recovered, she decided to dedicate the rest of her career to supporting others facing similar challenges. But the road to get there wouldn’t be easy. The cost to earn a peer support certification in New Jersey, where Tierney lives, can be hundreds of dollars. And aspiring peer workers must complete dozens of hours of training without any guarantee they’ll get hired.
