This is the first time a federal appeals court has struck down a state ban on such weapons, and it comes as the U.S. Supreme Court is set to consider whether bans on semiautomatic rifles violate the Second Amendment. Just last week, a different federal appeals court upheld Illinois' ban on semiautomatic weapons.

2-year-old boy seriously injured after falling out 5th-floor window in Bronx: Police
A 2-year-old boy suffered serious injuries after falling from a window on the fifth floor of a Bronx building, according to police. It was not immediately clear what led up to the child's fall from the housing complex on Oak Terrace in Mott Haven just after 6:30 p.m. Friday, police said. The boy fell from a window and into a courtyard area. Miraculously, the toddler was said to be alert and conscious when he was taken to Harlem Hospital, despite suffering serious injuries.
