(KELO) — A Sioux Falls police officer is recovering after being shot while responding to a welfare check Tuesday night. Police say officers were called to an address in the 3200 block of E. 20th St. just before 10 o'clock. When they arrived, a person inside a garage opened fire, hitting one officer.

Wed, July 8, 2026 at 7:07 AM UTC SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A Sioux Falls police officer is recovering after being shot while responding to a welfare check Tuesday night. Police say officers were called to an address in the 3200 block of E. 20th St. just before 10 p.m. The caller reported hearing gunshots inside the garage of the residence. When officers arrived a person inside the garage opened fire. Officers took cover as the gunfire continued, and one officer was shot.
