When I was a child, many people in this area frothed into hysterics over the election and re-election of Barack Obama. Popular among these histrionics was the notion that he would create concentration camps in America and use the power of the government to erode the rights of citizens and turn law enforcement against them. This never came to pass, at least not from President Obama.

This town is deeply ill. It is afflicted with a terrible kind of wasting disease, a disease of artificially deflated ambitions. The sickness is attributable to a select few instigators with disproportionate power and influence. Whenever our town seeks to grow or change, these self-appointed gatekeepers attack. They obstruct, they whine, they complain, or worse yet they collude behind the scenes to sabotage development.
