Peoria Public Schools’ superintendent is stepping down after the upcoming school year. Superintendent Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat made the announcement in an emailed statement Thursday. Kherat started at District 150 in 2015, meaning her resignation follows a decade at the helm of Peoria’s public schools. Kherat has overseen several major changes to school policy in that time.

Water company finds high lead levels in some routine tests in Peoria County

A handful of Peoria water testing sites are showing elevated levels of lead. That’s according to utility company Illinois American Water, which issued a notice required by the Environmental Protection Agency [EPA] to customers in the Peoria district this week. According to a spokesperson for the company, 103 water samples were collected between January and June in the Peoria area’s water system.
