United Nations judges contend that former UNOPS officials may bear some financial liability for the loss of tens of millions of dollars under their watch. For years, the United Nations has maintained that Vitaly Vanshelboim, a jailed former senior official sought by U.S. prosecutors, was solely responsible for an alleged corruption scandal that damaged the world body’s reputation and resulted in the loss of more than $60 million. That claim has now been challenged by the U.N. Appeals Tribunal.
