Shane McDaniel’s Biography

Currently I am the Director of IT for the City of Seguin, TX, just outside of San Antonio. I have twenty-six years of experience across multiple IT disciplines supporting the Air Force, national intelligence, private industry, and municipal government operations.

Throughout my career I have overseen and supported numerous widespread technology initiatives. These include Federal support missions, data center implementation and decommissioning efforts, and cloud migrations.

I have been a stakeholder for a number of network, telecom, systems, and security infrastructure efforts. I have worked extensively with fiber ring design, integrations, and facility builds. My years in private industry were spent managing global cybersecurity operations and the national telecom infrastructure. More than half my career has been spent as a people and hiring manager.

I have had the incredibly good fortune to see and experience the world per my life’s work. Years were spent living and working in and around Europe and both US coasts. Today I am the proprietor and champion of Country IT as an executive in Texas municipal government.

I am an aspiring writer holding a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Information Technology, and have earned several industry certifications. These include being a Certified Government Chief Information Officer (CGCIO) from the University of North Carolinas School of Government. I am a Project Manager Professional (PMP) and Certified Information Security Manager (CISM). I also possess ITIL v3 Intermediate Service Operations and CompTIA Security+ certifications.

Famously, twelve years of my personal time was spent pursuing my educational goals. This was in addition to my full time career and family obligations. It wasn’t easy, but I achieved what I set out to do. Doors to success were eventually opened I never felt were possible.

I wanted more, and refused to allow anyone to dictate the circumstances of my career. I created this blog to inspire and ensure people just like me knew there is a path to success for them that can be attained. It is possible to achieve if you’re willing to work for it.
