Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

A GovCIO Outlook article titled "Implementing Enterprise Technology in Rural America."

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, they were still teaching typewriting when I was in high school.

How is social media changing news?

Oh boy, that's a lot to unpack. I believe social media is pushing a biased narrative where unbiased truths are needed.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

I'm not a fiction kind of guy.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

To be engaged, to care about the world around you and the positive impact that you can make through your words.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

No pitch needed, just reach out and lets chat. If it makes sense for all parties chances are I'll be on board.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

My day job as a tech exec is a laptop and a myriad of software to manipulate various IT disciplines on behalf of my employer.

What's your favorite social network?

Personally I'll say LinkedIn. Facebook is by far the most successful social platform for my website.

Who do you wish followed you?

I am so far removed from that world I cannot even come up with an answer.

Why did you become a journalist?

I'm not a journalist, I'm a tech exec that enjoys writing and spreading a positive message to everyone.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I did not.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

Country IT: A New Mindset For Definitive Technology Success

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

I'm not certain I consider myself a journalist, but I do have thoughts to share with anyone aspiring towards a goal. Put yourself out there.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Email anytime!

What's your favorite drink?

Love me some coffee, old school with a bit of creamer and I'm ready to rock.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

In the gym, playing with my dogs, or being annoyed with my raggedy old Jeep.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

Texas Monthly

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

What's a beat? :)
