Anybody looking for a new furry friend will receive a discount if they adopt an adult pet from any Nova Scotia SPCA Saturday or Sunday. Hill’s Pet Nutrition is sponsoring up to $200 in fees for prospective pet owners during its adoption weekend. “Monday is National Best Friends Day so we want more people to come and find their BFF, their best furry friend,” says Sarah Lyon, a communications officer with the SPCA.

N.S. author returns with sequel to breakout first book

The Nova Scotia author behind the 2020 book, “Hench,” a novel about undervalued henchman working for supervillains, is back with a sequel. “Villain” continues the story of Anna, who takes down corrupt corporate superheroes with the power of data analysis and spreadsheets. “I was always hopeful for a sequel,” says author Natalie Zina Walschots. She says “Hench” is self-contained and has a distinct ending but leaves the door open for more.

Former intelligence officer speaks about his time as a spy in new book

When many people think of spies they often think of someone in a fancy suit who drives fast cars and drinks martinis, but the reality of the job can be very different. Mike Fournier, who lives in Halifax, was an intelligence officer for the Canadian Armed Forces and was even a founding member of the modern Canadian Forces Intelligence Branch. He’s also the author of ‘Intelligence Operator 230: In the Service of Canada,’ which highlights his time as a spy.
