1 INTRODUCTION Understanding the geographic distribution of species over time and the effects of environmental conditions on them is crucial for ecological research, biodiversity conservation and resource management (Franklin, 2013; Guisan et al., 2013; Pulliam, 2000; Srivastava et al., 2019).

1 Introduction Demersal oviparous sharks are known to use habitat-forming benthic organisms to attach their egg cases, such as cold-water octocorals (Etnoyer and Warrenchuk 2007; Henry et al. 2013; Cau et al. 2017) and tubeworms (Treude et al. 2011). The benthic organisms used by oviparous sharks constitute vulnerable marine ecosystems (VMEs) that, when used repeatedly, can be classified as egg nurseries.
