Interview
What was your first job as a journalist?
Reporter, Bracknell News.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yup, on a local newspaper in the Eighties. One of them dated back to the 1920s.
How is social media changing news?
It's collapsing boundaries between subjects; also empowering reporters with a political agenda.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Email damian.thompson@telegraph.co.uk
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
An account for the Spectator of the death of my friend Brian Brindley half way through his 70th birthday dinner party. He went out in style.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Always ask yourself, 'What am I trying to say?' and then use as few words as possible.
