Abstract Neurodevelopmental models implicate dopaminergic and neurocognitive maturation in adolescent risk-taking, yet their joint contribution to substance use trajectories in humans remains unclear. We examined basal ganglia tissue iron, a marker of dopamine-related neurobiology, alongside impulsivity and inhibitory control in relation to longitudinal substance use patterns in the NCANDA-A cohort (N = 802; ages 12–30; 6,078 visits).

An interesting slice of life film for me. All the more so because Elliott so closely reminds me of my uncle, who spent his whole life working for the post office and being a surf & ski bum in LA. This movie is an ode to guys like him. Men who find a comfortable little spot in the world, one that doesn’t pay much or have any room for advancement, and they just settle in for the long haul. In a way completely unintended, it’s also a time a time capsule showing a world that no longer exists.
