It was a little bit of a wild weather pattern this past week with some much-needed rain and cooler temperatures. As we look to the week ahead it looks like a return of warm sunny days with afternoon wind. Fishing has been very good even through the rapid weather changes. As things stabilize, this should only help the fishing improve on the lakes. When you head out on the water this holiday weekend, don’t forget your life jackets and pay attention to that afternoon wind it can show up in a hurry.

Sunny days, wind and great fishing has been the story this past week. Water levels are holding steady and fish are settling into their summer patterns. The bite (and wind) remain strong in the entire area. Be sure to plan your fishing day soon while the bite is still off the charts. Boat ramp hours are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Plan for heavy traffic on the water, particularly on the weekend. Water temperatures are mid 50s in the morning and warming as day progresses.

A few months ago, one of our co-authors bought her first home. She soon learned about a proposed data centre less than a kilometre away. Not through the city, but through a viral Instagram video. As for the rest of us, we found out via a blog post. This experience shouldn’t be normal. Major infrastructure projects deserve major public engagement. The city’s planning committee unanimously approved a temporary one-year pause on data centre developments.
