What was your first job as a journalist?
I worked as a writer for a sports-themed TV station called Digi24.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
I had one when I was 10 and played around with it all day. I haven't touched one since.
How is social media changing news?
Social media IS news. What's changed everything is the fact that people don't pay for news anymore.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Tom Tucker, Family Guy news anchor.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
To put aside your personal beliefs in search of fact-based truth.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
I don't really follow hashtags.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
By email
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
A dual-monitor PC and Microsoft Word. Most clients/media agencies I work with have their own CMS, where I paste my work,
What's your favorite social network?
Facebook. Mainly because it encapsulates every other social network's functions. You can tweet, you can add pictures like on Instagram, etc.
Who do you wish followed you?
Everyone.
Why did you become a journalist?
I became a writer because I discovered I have a talent for expressing myself in writing.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I did not have a high school newspaper.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
My proudest work is the 100+ articles I wrote for Indeed.com
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Don't aim to change the world, that's supremely narcissistic. Aim to show the world to your audience and inspire them to change it.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Any time, as long as it's interesting.
What's the best pitch you ever got?
I enjoy the vast majority of pitches I receive, as they mean that someone is interested in my services. So I can't choose one.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
It was a 2,000-word article on how to feed your cat.
What's your favorite drink?
Coca-Cola.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
On the basketball court or reading on the couch.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
I don't have one. There is no current publication that constantly produces material that I am interested in.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That what I do is easy.
