Grand Junction firefighters rappel off side of St. Mary's Hospital for training exercise

The heads of several firefighters poked out over the edge of the highest roof of Intermountain Health St. Mary’s Regional Hospital, above the 12-story patient tower, Tuesday morning looking down at the sheer brick wall below them. Throughout the morning, those firefighters practiced anchoring ropes to the building, attaching safety systems and ultimately throwing their legs over the edge of the building and rappelling down it.

Grand Junction hosts Colorado Wildland Fire Academy for the first time

This week, more than 400 wildland firefighting students and instructors descended on Grand Junction for the Colorado Wildland Fire and Incident Management Academy, the first time this regional firefighting training academy was held in the City. The Academy is put on by the Upper Arkansas Valley Wildfire Foundation, which hosts two training academies every year.

Council narrowly passes reduced Parks Impact Fee for developers

The Grand Junction City Council narrowly approved a change to the Parks Impact Fee it charges to developers that lowers the fee below what had previously been adopted by Council. Community Development Director Tamra Allen gave a brief presentation to City Council at its Wednesday meeting explaining the timeline of adoption of the previous impact fees, as well as requests from local developers to revisit the issue. “In 2019 the City did a significant update to its impact fee study,” Allen said.
