The region is already facing the effects of a warming world when it comes to hurricanes and the bleaching of coral reefs. State budget scales back on climate goals

Gov. Kathy Hochul signed off on the state budget Thursday. However, it rolls back New York’s landmark climate law. The 2019 Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act was set to cut 40% of greenhouse gases from New York state by 2030. Under the new state budget, that target is now 60% by 2040. Climate experts are discussing the impact this will have on New Yorkers. Jessica Ottney Mahar, the policy and strategy director of The Nature Conservancy, joined “NY1 at Ten” on Thursday to discuss more.
