Daniel Carde’s Biography

HI, I am Daniel Carde, a freelancer based in the Beirut, Lebanon since February 2020.

I began freelancing full-time in April 2019 and was based in San Antonio, Texas after completing a six month internship at The Dallas Morning News.

Prior to the internship, I attended the Eddie Adams Workshop XXX and Missouri Photo Workshop 70. As a student I worked on personal projects in Cambodia documenting landmine removal and landmine survivors, I documented the conflict against the Islamic State in Iraqi Kurdistan, and started an ongoing project covering the downhill skateboarding community in the U.S. Mountain West.

I have since covered the presidential campaigns for the 2020 election in the US; the Covid-19 pandemic, the economic collapse, and the Beirut Blast in Lebanon; and I've returned to Iraq to document landmine survivors and a double amputee deminer, as well as the ongoing ISIS mop-up by Peshmerga and Iraqi forces.

As a former paratrooper I am interested in all things related to veteran issues: why people choose to enlist, training, conflict, post-war care, post-war employment, veteran homelessness, and the different ways veterans seek out similar forms of comradery and brotherhood they had in the military, ie possible clubs or groups they join.

I like good french fries, watching movies at the cinema, being in the mountains, and star-gazing, oh, and creating art when the inspiration hits me.
