When the BBC released its documentary "Death in Dubai" earlier this month, it exposed a dark underworld where Ugandan women, lured by promises of good jobs in the United Arab Emirates, especially Dubai, ended up trapped in sexual exploitation. At the centre of the investigation was Charles “Abbey” Mwesigwa, named as the alleged ringleader of one of the sex trafficking networks.

Image of Ssenyonyi in ‘Vote Museveni’ T-Shirt is a Deepfake

An image circulating on social media claiming to show Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi wearing a “Vote Museveni” T-shirt in 2014 has been found to be fabricated. Fact-checking shows the image is an example of AI-generated deepfake content designed to mislead the electorate in the run-up to the 2026 general elections. The Image first appeared on TikTok, posted by @Gustyaki0, a faceless account whose content is all AI-generated.
