The partially constructed new building going up at 1st Ave and East 51st St After an exciting Jane’s Walk earlier this month I found myself in Midtown East near the site of the Sutton Tower I recently wrote about, where I came across a 29-story tower going up on the corner of First Avenue and East 51st Street. The terracotta cladding caught my eye first, but after a moment the shape is the noticeably stranger part. The first six or seven floors form a wide podium that fills most of the lot.
The former ABC campus between West 66th and 67th Streets, April 2026. Demolition of the old broadcasting complex is underway on a 2.4-acre site half a block from the 1 train. Sutton Tower (430 E 58th St) from Roosevelt Island I took the Roosevelt Island Tramway across the East River last weekend to make the most of a capped-out OMNY card. Turned out to be peak cherry blossom weekend, which explained the crowds on the west esplanade. There were A TON of visitors checking out the skyline, snapping photos, and picnicking on the grass. The blossoms made the island especially cool to check out in April.
