Excitatory paraventricular thalamus–posterior insular cortex circuit mediates pain–anxiety comorbidity in diabetic neuropathy
Abstract Painful diabetic neuropathy (PDN) is frequently accompanied by anxiety, yet the neural circuit mechanisms associated with nociceptive hypersensitivity to affective dysfunction remain unclear. Here we combined brain-wide c-Fos mapping, viral tracing, in vivo fiber photometry, whole-cell recordings, and projection-specific opto/chemogenetics in a mouse model of streptozotocin-induced PDN to define a thalamo–cortex circuit for pain–anxiety comorbidity.
Development and multicenter validation of an explainable machine learning diagnostic criteria for pediatric abdominal sepsis - npj Digital Medicine
|
Abstract Accurate identification of early pediatric abdominal sepsis (PAS) is essential to improving outcomes, yet most existing pediatric sepsis criteria and scoring tools primarily focus on cardiopulmonary dysfunction and overlook early intra-abdominal infections. To address this gap, we combined the real-world data with explainable machine learning to develop the Abdominal Sepsis Diagnosis model (ABSeD) for clinical decision support.

Age-associated reduction in ER-Mitochondrial contacts impairs mitochondrial lipid metabolism and autophagosome formation in the heart - Cell Death & Differentiation
Abstract The accumulation of dysfunctional giant mitochondria is a hallmark of aged cardiomyocytes. This study investigated the core mechanism underlying this phenomenon, focusing on the disruption of mitochondrial lipid metabolism and its effects on mitochondrial dynamics and autophagy, using both naturally aging mouse models and etoposide-induced cellular senescence models.
Gut microbial GABA imbalance emerges as a metabolic signature in mild autism spectrum disorder linked to overrepresented Escherichia
Keywords autism gut microbiota multi-omics metabolome γ-aminobutyric acid glutamate neurotransmitter homeostasis gut-brain axis diagnostic biomarker Escherichia Introduction Autism spectrum disorder (ASD), characterized by impaired social interaction, repetitive behavior, and stereotyped interests, poses significant challenges to social adaptability in affected individuals.1 With a global prevalence recently estimated at 1%–2%,2 ASD imposes a substantial social burden.
A Case Report: A Patient Rescued by Va-Ecmo After Cardiac Arrest Triggered by Trigeminocardiac Reflex After Nasal Surgery
Cardiac arrest (CA) caused by trigeminocardiac reflex (TCR) after endoscopic nasal surgery is rare. Hence, when a patient suffers from TCR induced CA in the recovery room, most doctors may not be able to find the cause in a short time, and standard cardiopulmonary resuscitation and resuscitation measures may not be effective.
Inhibitory neuron map of sevoflurane induced neurotoxicity model in young primates
1. Introduction Annually, millions of children globally undergo surgical procedures under anesthesia (Kearns et al., 2021). The brain, being the principal target of general anesthetics, is crucial in effectuating anesthesia (Niu et al., 2022). Consequently, anesthetic exposure in developing brains is a critical health concern, prompting significant public attention and controversy (Kearns et al., 2021).
Prediction models for chronic postsurgical pain in patients with breast cancer based on machine learning approaches
Introduction Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. Although the ten-year survival rate of breast cancer has reached 82% (1, 2), there are still 20% to 60% of surviving patients experiencing chronic postsurgical pain (CPSP) after breast cancer surgery, resulting in a reduced quality of life and functional impairments (3–5).
A nucleus targetable fluorescent probe for ratiometric imaging of endogenous NO in living cells and zebrafishes
A nucleus targetable fluorescent probe for ratiometric imaging of endogenous NO in living cells and zebrafishes Nitric oxide (NO) is an important cellular messenger molecule in the cardiovascular, nervous and immune systems. Real-time monitoring of NO activity in specific organelles of live cells is important to understand its biological function. In this work, a nucleus targetable ratiometric NO probe, Hoe-Rh-NO, is developed by linking Hoechst to rhodamine spirolactam.

Recurrence of breast cancer after anaesthesia
Daniel Sessler and colleagues compared regional (paravertebral blocks and propofol) with general (sevoflurane and opioid-based analgesia) anaesthesia on breast cancer recurrence in their randomised controlled trial. They concluded that regional anaesthesia did not reduce cancer recurrence after surgery for primary breast cancer compared with general anaesthesia.
