What was your first job as a journalist?
A trainee reporter for my university's student newspaper, which ended up teaching me a lot that I needed to know to be a reporter.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes, I have one in an old storage unit somewhere but it's a more useful as a photo prop than a writing tool at this point.
How is social media changing news?
In just about every way, but I think that the journalism industry is slowly but surely adapting to the new landscape of media.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Ooh, okay very deep cut but the fictional comic-book journalist Spider Jerusalem.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
It means accepting a responsibility to delivering accurate reporting and working to better the lives of the public through journalism.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
My main tools are a Canon 5D Mark II DSLR camera, two lenses, a notepad to write questions on and a recording app on my phone.
Why did you become a journalist?
Because I believe in the power of information to better the lives of those who need it most.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I think it would have to be my coverage of Charlie Kirk's memorial and the political tension of that situation.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Don't overlook the importance of local journalism, local stories and local needs.
What's your favorite drink?
Coffee. No journalist can ever get enough good coffee.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Walking around my neighborhood to get a few minutes of air before I go back to a dimly lit room and a computer screen.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
At the moment I think it would be the Mehdi Hasan founded publication Zeteo.
