One of downtown Newark’s most anticipated projects — RBH Group’s plans to build a tower behind the historic Paramount Theater at 195 Market Street — seems to be moving forward, only this time with a scaled-down design. The Newark-based developer appeared before the Landmarks Commission this month with a new proposal to build a 16-story tower.

The Robert Treat Hotel and WBGO were among a group of objectors to fend off a plan to build a 27-story building in Newark’s Military Park Historic District. The opposition hired Calvin Souder, a lawyer who often represents clients advocating for some of the tallest towers approved in the last few years, including the Arc Tower and the Summit Tower.
