Iran is running out water. But artificial intelligence is providing solutions, according to research from University of St. Thomas Professor John Abraham and his Iranian colleagues. They have partnered on 50 studies over six years to provide solutions to address the crisis. Abraham has co-authored two studies with Dr. Farzin Salmasi, a water engineering professor at the University of Tabriz in Iran.

A week before classes began at the University of St. Thomas, nearly 150 first-year students filled with entrepreneurial spirit participated in Freshman Innovation Immersion, an exciting day of business ideation and creation. Now in its 11th year, the daylong Schulze School of Entrepreneurship event – open to first-year students from all disciplines – challenges them to brainstorm business concepts and pitch their ideas to judges “Shark Tank-style,” with a chance to win up to $500 cash.

Why This Nutrition Program Teaches Guilt-Free Eating

Food guilt doesn’t belong at the dinner table nor in the classroom. That’s the philosophy driving Amber Roy’s work at the University of St. Thomas. A registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN)  and senior clinical professor, Roy is the nutrition program director for the Department of Health and Exercise Science. She teaches students to focus on overall diet satisfaction. “A balanced or healthy eating pattern involves a wide range of foods,” Roy said.

Why did you become a journalist?

I've aspired to be a journalist since high school when I worked in radio. I love meeting people and sharing their stories.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

It's been gratifying to write about PR, healthcare, equity and bringing awareness to communities.
