Lessons from the political fight over climate regulation
One-sided politics too often poisons the air we breathe as we think about climate change. This is particularly true when it comes to understanding the recent decision by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to repeal the Greenhouse Gas Endangerment Finding established in 2009. Climate regulation might lose its teeth due to the EPA’s decision, but politically viable climate solutions remain possible. Many Democrats see climate change as an existential threat.

Commentary: What college freshmen taught me about politics
The longest government shutdown in U.S. history painfully illustrated that most elected officials are not good at interacting productively with the opposite political party. Far from this embarrassing dysfunction, my college students showed that meaningful political dialogue is still possible.

Editorial: mRNA is the future of vaccine science
By Dave Gammon U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. recently terminated $500 million in federal funding for developing mRNA vaccines, but don’t be fooled into thinking these life-saving tools are now obsolete. President Trump’s “Operation Warp Speed” showed the world that mRNA vaccines, such as the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, represent the future of vaccine technology. This is not an article to rehash pointless and stale political debates about COVID-19.

Opinion: Proactive approach to PFAS needed

PFAS is an umbrella term that includes Teflon, Gen-X, PFOA and other synthetic fluorinated chemicals, mostly unregulated. You can expect more lawsuits, given that these persistent industrial substances have been linked to cancer, thyroid disease and other maladies and are found in the blood of nearly everyone tested.

By Corey Friedman | on April 28, 2023 By Dave Gammon The United States Congress must agree to raise the current debt limit of $31.4 trillion. If lawmakers fail to act, then sometime this summer, the U.S. will default on its debt for the first time in history, sending unpredictable shockwaves through the economy. In My Words: Darwin the scientist, Darwin the man
Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution changed forever how we think about medicine, organisms, and human origins. But as we celebrate Darwin’s birthday this Feb 12th, the lessons from his character are just as relevant to us as his ideas about biology. Darwin’s character is commonly misunderstood. Contrary to popular Internet memes, he never saw himself as a crusader against religion. Furthermore, Darwin’s intellectual brilliance differed from that of other historical geniuses.
