During afternoon rush hour last Friday, a single-engine aircraft smashed into the upper floors of Beijing’s CITIC Tower, a glittering skyscraper towering above the city’s central business district. Footage and eyewitness accounts of the crash circulated rapidly on Chinese social media, including video of the aircraft breaking apart on impact, debris raining down on the street below.
