Joan Greenwood was a beloved teacher at Barstow Memorial School in Chittenden for decades and a resident of West Rutland all her life. But to me, she was a life-long family friend who from when I was just a toddler to a teen, annually drove my mother, sister and me to Hampton Beach, New Hampshire, for our few-day ocean getaway. She was kind of like an aunt, who later in life often revealed to my mother how much those beach days meant to her.
