What does it mean to be a journalist?

Having the smarts and experience to put forth high-quality work that gets noticed and is appreciated.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

I prefer to be pitched assignments via email or in-person in a booth at the Whisky A Go-Go.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

My cabeza.

What's your favorite social network?

Conversation.

Who do you wish followed you?

God, Jesus, and Taylor Swift. Not necessarily in that order

Why did you become a journalist?

To get backstage passes to a Poison concert in 1990.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I was the Editor-in-Chief of my high school newspaper.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

I'm most proud of interviewing my favorite rock star and the writer who inspired my career, and then have him compliment me on one of his Grammy-winning spoken-word albums.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Get off the Internet and read a book for inspiration.

When's the best time to pitch you?

When I’m awake and not drunk. Good luck.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

Invitation to write my own book and contribute to another for the publishers of "The Advocate."

What's your favorite drink?

Vodka, chilled, with an olive and a tightly rolled spliff.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

At someone else’s computer.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

Unfortunately, there hasn't been a quality publication in existence since Guns N' Roses was on the cover of "Rolling Stone" in 1988.
