David Crary has been a reporter, editor and bureau chief with The Associated Press since 1976. From 1999 to 2021, he was an AP national writer based in New York, primarily writing feature stories about volatile social issues _ abortion, LGBTQ rights, prison conditions, divorce and domestic violence, among others. He now directs AP's global religion team.
