Potential effectiveness of long-acting injectable pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV prevention in men who have sex with men: a modelling study
Oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) prevents HIV infection in men who have sex with men (MSM); however, adherence is an ongoing concern. Long-acting injectable PrEP is being tested in phase 3 trials and could address challenges associated with adherence. We examined the potential effectiveness of long-acting injectable PrEP compared with oral PrEP in MSM. We used an agent-based model to simulate HIV transmission in a dynamic network of 11 245 MSM in Atlanta, GA, USA.

Blog - Wild Cards
(That I Didn’t Create) by Stephen Leigh I truly enjoy writing for the Wild Cards universe, as using characters other people have created (and using them in a manner that their creators intended) is part and parcel of the process, and that’s something that stretches the writing muscles.
New HPV vaccine could curb cervical cancers and health costs if adopted widely
New Haven, Conn.-- A Yale-led study finds that a new vaccine for human papillomavirus (HPV) would significantly reduce both cervical cancer incidence and healthcare costs if states coordinated policies to improve coverage. The study was published April 18 by Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. HPV, the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States, is the primary cause of cervical cancer.
Does the Republican Party even need minority voters such as Latinos to win elections when the country is two-thirds Caucasian?
In the 2012 election 39% of white voters supported President Obama. I was one of them. In 2008 I voted for him as well, not because I viewed him as some sort of messianic figure, but simply because he was the nominee of my party and I thought he and his running mate were a much better alternative to his opponent and his opponent's running mate. I did view his election as a positive turning point in America's history, but didn't expect him to cure all the ills flesh is heir to.
