Associations between social media-based digital contact with family and friends on loneliness and well-being outcomes in middle-aged and older adults: a mediation analysis
Abstract Social connections are essential for well-being, particularly in middle-aged and older adults, but maintaining them becomes challenging due to shrinking social networks and physical limitations that hinder participation in social events. Social media offers a potential avenue for increasing social interaction and online social support, thereby reducing loneliness and enhancing well-being.
A Risk-Balanced Approach to Upstream Capital Projects
Upstream capital projects carry unique complexities other megaprojects don't: The value potential depends on a reservoir that cannot be fully understood, even after millions to billions of dollars of investment and decades of production. This uncertainty, along with a range of technical and commercial complexities, dictates whether a project succeeds.
Rebuilding Exploration
Exploration isn’t in a down cycle, it’s in decline. The industry data is clear: Traditional exploration and appraisal well counts are down sharply compared with the 2000s and early 2010s. In response to sparse traditional opportunities, capital moved to unconventional development, portfolios were high-graded, and spending was restrained. Even as production has continued to grow, conventional reserve replacement fell from 30%–40% in the 2010s to roughly 10%–20% in the 2020s (see Figure 1).

An open-source platform for multimodal digital trace data collection from smartphones - Nature Health
Abstract Smartphone-based digital trace data can offer powerful insights for identifying behavioural patterns and health risks. However, existing tools for comprehensive data collection lack scalability, customizability, transparency and accessibility.
"Associations Between Physical Activity and Alcohol Consumption in Rura" by Scherezade K Mama, Natalia I Heredia et al.
PURPOSE: Rural adults and cancer survivors are more likely to be physically inactive and exceed recommendations for alcohol use. Physical activity and alcohol use are positively associated in adults and cancer survivors but associations between physical activity and alcohol use in rural cancer survivors is unknown. This cross-sectional study explored associations between physical activity, sitting time, and alcohol use in rural cancer survivors.
Association of Daily Physical Activity With Motivation in Prefrail and Frail Older Adults Living in Retirement Communities
Older adults living in retirement communities are an understudied population, and the association between their motivation and daily physical activity is unknown. We recruited participants (n = 173) living in a retirement community who completed the Behavioral Regulation in Exercise Questionnaire-2 and wore an activPAL accelerometer to evaluate this relationship.
Association between functional capacity and motivation to engage in physical activity before surgery
Functional capacity assessment before surgery identifies older adults at increased risk of functional decline after major surgery [1]. Increasing physical activity before surgery has shown efficacy to mitigate functional decline afterwards [2]. A key component necessary to initiate physical activity is motivation, defined as the processes that energises, orients and sustains behaviour.

Broad versus narrow bandwidth measures of experienced automaticity for physical activity
Abstract Objective: Physical activity is important for health, yet most young adults are insufficiently active. Physical activity is regulated in part, by habit, typically operationalised as automaticity. Little is known about the characteristics of automaticity, or whether broad bandwidth unidimensional measures of automaticity for physical activity are superior to narrower bandwidth multi- dimensional measures.
Affective judgments, environmental determinants, and physical activity in emerging and young adults
Abstract Objective Affective judgements represent a promising target for promoting physical activity among adults. This study examined whether relations between affective judgments and physical activity are robust after adjusting for social, built, and natural environmental determinants. Design Prospective cross-sectional study with 173 adults (70.1% female) aged 18–29 years who self-reported less than 90 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity.

Motivational profiles and change in physical activity during a weight loss intervention: a secondary data analysis - International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity
Abstract Background High levels of moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity (MVPA) are strongly associated with sustained weight loss, however the majority of adults are unsuccessful in maintaining high levels of MVPA long-term. Our goal was to identify profiles based on exercise motives, and examine the association between motivational profile and longitudinal changes in MVPA during a weight loss intervention.
Revitalizing Adolescent Health Behavior After the COVID-19 Pandemic
In a prospective cohort study of public high school students in Northern California, Chaffee et al1 observed a decline in physical activity frequency during the stay-at-home orders related to the COVID-19 pandemic, but no change was observed in the frequency of substance use (ie, e-cigarettes, other tobacco, cannabis, and alcohol).
Seasons, weather, and device-measured movement behaviors: a scoping review from 2006 to 2020
Abstract Background This scoping review summarized research on (a) seasonal differences in physical activity and sedentary behavior, and (b) specific weather indices associated with those behaviors. Methods PubMed, CINAHL, and SPORTDiscus were searched to identify relevant studies. After identifying and screening 1459 articles, data were extracted from 110 articles with 118,189 participants from 30 countries (almost exclusively high-income countries) on five continents.

Move more, sit less: Great advice, but how can we make time for exercise?
It’s that time again. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services just released a new edition of the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. That sound you hear is Americans collectively sighing. Let’s be honest: Physical activity guidelines can be tough. As behavioral scientists with expertise in exercise motivation, we will be the first to admit that maintaining a physically active lifestyle isn’t easy. This is what we do, and we don’t even always hit the goal.

Thirsting to understand the temporal dynamics of physical activity and alcohol use
The British Journal of Sports Medicine recently published two important papers on the health implications of physical activity and alcohol use.1 2 Relations between these behaviours surprise many because they typically exhibit a positive association.3 4 Health behaviours generally cluster into ‘healthy’ or ‘unhealthy’ bundles, so clinicians need to be aware of this mixed clustering before integrating physical activity with treatment for alcohol use disorders.5 These findings also raise...

Feasibility and Impact of High Intensity Walking Training in Frail Older Adults
To investigate the impact of high intensity walking training (HIWT) on pre-frail and frail older adults, five assisted living residents underwent a supervised 12-session intervention. The intervention consisted of 30 minutes of HIWT at 70-80% of heart rate reserve or ratings of 15 to 17 (hard to very hard) on the Borg Rating of Perceived Exertion scale. Training included walking at fast speeds, multi-directions, stairs, and outdoor surfaces with and without an assistive device.
