One presented itself in an Uber last week when a headstrong driver ignored the obvious route between Northwick Park Hospital and our flat and instead burrowed Brent's backstreets on a circuitous tour of potholes. I felt like I'd been chauffeured home in a cocktail shaker. That's life, I thought: a zigzag in the back of a cab driven by a madman. The taxi ride was not last week's biggest bump in the road.

Too Many Critics in partnership with OpenTable: Charity cook-off returns at Claridge's

The much-vaunted charity cook-off Too Many Critics is returning for its 25th anniversary on June 15 this year. Held in partnership with OpenTable, the night is to be hosted by Claridge’s, at its acclaimed restaurant Dante. The evening sees restaurant critics and food writers leave their keyboards and head for the stoves as, in a reversal of the usual order, they cook for both the public and a panel of star judges.
