When it comes to the Queen musical “We Will Rock You,” there are two very distinct things going on. In San Jose Stage’s production of the 2002 musical, the iconic tunes that launched the legend of one of rock music’s greatest voices, Freddie Mercury, are presented with effective reverence. Yet Ben Elton’s story and script are so universally bad you have to wonder if artificial intelligence on a bad day had a hand in crafting this dreck.

Of the four compartments that make up a tiffin, the one that houses the roti is most critical. That compartment shares the space with a daily note, one originally intended for Ila’s enigmatic husband. The note fell into the hands of record keeper Saajan, who lives for every correspondence and deliciousness from Ila’s humble kitchen and profound pen. What began as a mistake by the always reliable dabbawalas and their ability to deliver thousands of daily meals became a mistake laden with hope.
