Have you ever used a typewriter?
Never! But props to those who were forced to learn their craft doing so. Millennials would have never survived the age of pressing ink.
How is social media changing news?
Everything breaks instantaneously now. Social media gives viewers such immediate feedback that they now crave the minute to minute.
Who do you wish followed you?
I wish Barack Obama followed me so we could chat about race relations and basketball over Twitter DMs.
Why did you become a journalist?
Journalism gets to the heart of an issue, no matter how painful, scary, or depressing it may be. That honesty to uncover the truth drives me.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Reporting on the death of Satoru Iwata, while sad, resulted in some of my most tactful work, as I felt poor writing would have let him down.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Be true to yourself. Too often, we let others dictate how to react to the world around us. Have faith in yourself and esp. your own stories.
What's the best pitch you ever got?
I got hit once with a zinger of a four-seam fastball at about 65 mph during a little league baseball game. Wept all the way to first base.
What's your favorite drink?
My favorite drink is an Arnold Palmer. Not content with settling for one great beverage or the other, I need to have BOTH to be satisfied!
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
I'm at the television exploring where television, film, and video game media will possibly take us next.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
I love reading Kotaku. What it sacrifices in video content it makes up for with thoughtful stories that put the writing first, always.
