South Africa Gets a Pass From FATF on Rampant Corruption
Argument An expert’s point of view on a current event. Corruption has a long and sordid history in South Africa, but don’t look to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to help fight it. In late October, the world’s leading intergovernmental anti-money laundering watchdog removed South Africa from its “gray list” of countries subject to increased monitoring.
South Africa’s Latest Pro-Terror Move
Will the U.S. consulate in Johannesburg sit at 1 Leila Khaled Drive? The Johannesburg Municipality announced last week the proposed renaming of the iconic Sandton Drive, home to the U.S. consulate, after a Palestinian terrorist and hijacker. This celebration of terrorism caps the South African leadership’s multi-year embrace of the Iran-backed terrorist group Hamas.

Hamas’ South African support network
By David May Source: FDD South Africa does not just carry water for Hamas by attacking Israel in international forums. It has also allowed Hamas to turn South Africa into a base for fundraising, where an extensive network of front organizations builds support for terrorism. Washington has stepped up its efforts to impose sanctions on Hamas’s foreign enablers, but its South African support network has escaped the consequences so far.

Antisemitism on Campus Must End
Calling for the genocide of Jews is permitted at the University of Pennsylvania. School president Liz Magill conveyed this message at a congressional hearing earlier this month. Days later, she resigned. But Magill’s resignation won’t erase a campus climate that enables antisemitism and annihilationist anti-Israel activism. To protect Jewish students, universities should expel proponents of genocide.

Israel’s Proportional and Humanitarian Response
Hamas murdered over 1,400 Israelis on October 7 in the deadliest attack on the Jewish people since the Holocaust. As Israel prepares to launch widespread ground-based counterterrorism missions in the coming days, there is a growing chorus arguing that Israel is responding disproportionately to the terror attacks, launching indiscriminate attacks on Gaza, and engaging in collective punishment. Misconceptions surrounding these three issues are driving this anti-Israel sentiment.

Israel Has No Choice But to Destroy Hamas Through a Ground Incursion
Israelis will not be safe until the Israel Defense Forces disable Hamas, which can only be done by sending troops into Gaza. Until October 6, the prevailing wisdom in Israel was that previous rounds of fighting had deterred Hamas, which had moderated, was only a minor annoyance, and was more concerned with governing its people than with destroying Israel. The barbarity of Hamas’ October 7 pogrom proved that none of this was true. Since its founding, Hamas has been committed to Israel’s destruction.

The Hamas Disinformation Campaign Against Israel Is Also Brutal
Hamas launched a disinformation assault on Tuesday. Following a week of shock and outrage stemming from its Oct. 7 massacre of more than 1,400 Israelis, the terrorist group backed by Iran needed to turn the tide. The explosion at the Al Ahli Arab Hospital in northern Gaza provided the opportunity to win global sympathy and spur Hamas’s allies and supporters to attack Israel with words and weapons.

The BDS Campaign Embraces Hamas’ Massacre - and the World Will Remember
The brutality of Hamas’ slaughter of Israeli civilians has put anti-Israel activists in a bind: Should they condemn atrocities against Israel, or should they defend Palestinian actions as extreme as killing babies? The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) campaign made its decision, lauding the “justified use of armed resistance against the oppressors’ military and civilians.” Supporting these atrocities will taint the BDS brand.
Dutch Authorities Catch Hamas Financier Red-Handed
Amin Abou Rashed, president of the European Palestinians Conference (EPC), was rubbing elbows with Swedish politicians at an EPC event in late May. A month later, Rashed and his daughter were reportedly behind bars in the Netherlands for funneling €5.5 million to Hamas. This is just the latest instance of Hamas and other terrorist groups operating under the guise of charities and non-governmental organizations. According to Dutch law, the names of suspects are not released until after a conviction.
