De La Rosa: AI will not replace HVAC workers anytime soon
We don’t do a lot of PowerPoint presentations. We don’t show them what it’s going to look like. We actually have them do it.” BROWNSVILLE, Texas — Looking to address a critical workforce shortage while steering high school students toward high-paying careers, Texas Southmost College (TSC) hosted an immersive, hands-on summer camp this week that brought together students from 13 Rio Grande Valley school districts.
Observed stratospheric mean age decrease consistent with circulation acceleration
Abstract The Brewer–Dobson circulation largely determines the distribution of key trace gases and aerosols in the stratosphere and is projected to accelerate under climate change in chemistry-climate models simulations. However, observational constraints based on the mean age of air have suggested weak increases, implying a possible slowdown of the circulation and a discrepancy from model projections.
Specialised AI will define the next era of Australian enterprise networks Original
Artificial intelligence (AI) is no longer an experimental layer in enterprise IT - it is fast becoming the strategic core of enterprise IT. Across Australia, organisations are using AI to manage increasingly complex networks that underpin everything from hybrid work and digital customer experiences to automation and critical infrastructure. But as adoption accelerates, a clear divide is emerging.
Five connectivity trends that will redefine enterprise IT in 2026 and beyond Original
Enterprise IT has always evolved, but rarely at the pace we are experiencing today. Hybrid work, artificial intelligence, connected devices, and shifting customer expectations are reshaping the way organizations operate. What was once the sole responsibility of the CIO has now become a board-level concern. Connectivity is no longer background infrastructure. It is a strategic lever that influences growth, innovation, and resilience.
The 2025 Ultimate Guide to Zero Trust Security
Zero Trust Security represents a modern approach to cybersecurity that assumes no inherent trust exists within or outside an organisation's network. Every access request must be verified continuously, ensuring strict identity verification and least-privilege access to protect data and infrastructure.
The 2025 Ultimate Guide to Firewalls
Firewalls are a fundamental component of network security, serving as a first line of defense against cyber threats by controlling and monitoring incoming and outgoing network traffic. This tag encompasses extensive coverage of the latest developments, insights, and solutions related to firewalls, including next-generation firewalls, virtual firewalls, web application firewalls, and cloud-native firewall technologies.
The 2025 Ultimate Guide to Network Security
Network Security encompasses the technologies, policies, and practices designed to safeguard computer networks from unauthorized access, attacks, and data breaches. In an era marked by digital transformation, cloud adoption, and increased remote workforces, securing networks has become an essential priority for businesses, governments, and institutions alike.
The 2025 Ultimate Guide to Edge Computing
Edge computing represents a transformative shift in the way data is processed, moving computation and analytics closer to the source of data generation rather than relying solely on centralized cloud infrastructures. This proximity reduces latency, enhances real-time data processing, and supports emerging technologies such as IoT, AI, and 5G.
Network Technologies Driving Sustainability for Education and Hospitality in 2025
GUEST OPINION: With increased regulation to mitigate the impacts of climate change amid a growing societal demand for companies to step up on sustainability practices, the Australian Accounting Standard Board (AASB) has laid out the reporting standards for companies to disclose information about all sustainability-related risks and opportunities that could reasonably be expected to affect the entity's cash flows.
Islamicate manuscripts in a Christian monastery (Part 2), The Franciscan Provincial Archives, Valletta, Malta
Introduction In the first instalment of a two-part blog series, I explain the conservation treatment of four 17th-century Islamic manuscripts. These manuscripts were rebound in 20th-century Western bindings, which were incompatible with the original Islamic materials. Subsequently, the manuscripts were rebound in an Islamic limp leather binding. During the rebinding process, I observed that one manuscript, Ms A. 2. IV, was notably heavier.
AI-powered networks and Wi-Fi 7
GUEST OPINION: "Data growth is driving network infrastructure modernisation in Australia, fuelled by AI-powered applications and IoT devices. With increasing demands from businesses and consumers, the network is more crucial than ever. By 2025, Australian networks are expected to be more scalable, agile, AI-ready, flexible, intelligent and secure, with Wi-Fi 7 leading the charge.
Are Large Language Models Artificial Intelligence?
Whilst Large Language Models (LLMs), such as ChatGPT, are a significant technical leap forward do they merit the AI hype? Understanding what we mean by intelligence and how it is measured allows us to define the extent to which LLMs can be called intelligent. This informs a realistic discussion of what an LLM can do and allows us to burst the hype bubble releasing resources to develop the next wave of technology advancement.
Stratospheric water vapor affecting atmospheric circulation - Nature Communications
Abstract Water vapor plays an important role in many aspects of the climate system, by affecting radiation, cloud formation, atmospheric chemistry and dynamics. Even the low stratospheric water vapor content provides an important climate feedback, but current climate models show a substantial moist bias in the lowermost stratosphere. Here we report crucial sensitivity of the atmospheric circulation in the stratosphere and troposphere to the abundance of water vapor in the lowermost stratosphere.
Do Data Scientists Add Value?
By David Plummer Following the Covid Pandemic, we asked local stakeholders in the healthcare system what benefit they derived from the data science team. I was working with the local business intelligence team of a local public health department when the Covid pandemic arrived. We were training data scientists with skills that would increase the value of the team to the organisation. Historically, the team was used to collect...
How to Manage Exceptions When Waiting On Multiple Asyncio Tasks
This is the second part of a series of articles looking at problems arising when waiting on multiple events in Python Asyncio. The first article explored how to manage the lifecycle of tasks when using asyncio.wait. This article discusses how asyncio.wait handles exceptions and what the programmer needs to do to ensure that results are gathered and tasks terminated in a coordinated manner.
How to Photograph Woodland Birds
Most bird photographers are already pretty good at photographing woodland birds, whether they know it or not. Garden birds are, in effect, woodland birds or woodland edge birds. No bird species has evolved around the habitat of gardens, as they are so modern in evolutionary history. However, gardens in general (some more than others) are areas of short turf, hopefully some hedging, and some trees or shrubs. To all intents and purposes, this mimics a woodland clearing.
Plummer: STC students are tired of working only online
The ongoing news is the presidential search. As you all know, Dr. Reed retired a couple of months ago and so the board has been actively working to develop the presidential profile. We had several public forums, working with the (American) Association of Community Colleges trustees to develop a presidential profile. That has been developed. It has been put out and so now there is a national search going on requesting applicants for the position. So the board is definitely moving forward.
How to Photograph Little Owls
When a little owl lands in front of you, it is nothing but startling. It has an expression of fury on its face, or at the very least barely controlled rage. It is a voracious predator, perfect in form and function, despite being miniature in size. It punches alarmingly above its weight category. This is the little owl, and it is said by some that if it was the size of an eagle then it would predate on humans.

How to Photograph Kingfishers
As birds go, the kingfisher is probably one of the UK’s most beautiful, easily identified, and most sought-after birds. We have grown up with imagery of it; a kingfisher is as iconic and recognisable as an owl. Unfortunately, most people have never seen one – let alone photograph a kingfisher. At best, they may have seen what I call the ‘Cobalt Bullet’ as it skims just above the water’s surface along the edges of lakes and river systems.
Nikon D6 Review: Wildlife Photography Field Test
As far as I am concerned, a camera is a tool and it needs to help me capture high quality wildlife images in difficult scenarios and harsh environments. However, I must admit I was a little bit excited to review the mighty Nikon D6 – Nikon’s newest flagship camera. It boasts improved auto-focus, noise control at high ISO, and 14 frames per second shooting speed (continuously for 200 frames). As a D4 and D5 user for years, on paper it looked like my next obvious upgrade.
Nikon D780 Review for Wildlife Photography
In today’s changing photography world, are you asking yourself “is it all going mirrorless?”, “will my beloved lenses become obsolete?”, “do I change brand?” After all, DSLR brand loyalty is more about your existing lens collection, rather than a particular love of Nikon or Canon. A camera body upgrade is expensive enough without factoring in trading in all your lenses! Well, if you are an existing Nikon user, you may wish to read this Nikon D780 review.
How to Photograph Nesting Birds
Photographing birds at the nest is perhaps the oldest form of bird photography; looking back at the work of Eric Hosking for example, his work was often at the nest, probably due to the fact that with primitive equipment and slow film, photographing a bird at a known spot and barely moving often yielded results which could not be achieved with more active subjects.

Watch Morozov's 50 Back & 50 Free World Cup Races From Kazan
Russia’s Vlad Morozov cranked out 2 World Cup Records on just the first stop of the 2018 series. Last night in Kazan, the former USC standout produced a winning 50m freestyle time of 21.49 to surpass the previous WC Record of 21.64 set by France’s Florent Manaudou back in 2015.

2018 U.S. Nationals Previews: Murderer’s Row Remains In Men’s 100 Back
The men’s 100 back has arguably been the most competitive event domestically for the United States over the past decade. Ten years ago, 2007 World Championship silver medalist Ryan Lochte swam the fastest time of his career at the Olympic Trials in Omaha, but failed to make the team in finishing 3rd.

Historical tropospheric and stratospheric ozone radiative forcing using the CMIP6 database
We calculate ozone radiative forcing (RF) and stratospheric temperature adjustments for the period 1850-2014 using the newly available CMIP6 ozone dataset. The CMIP6 total ozone RF (1850s-2000s) is 0.28±0.17 Wm−2 (which is 80% higher than our CMIP5 estimation), and 0.30±0.17 Wm−2 out to the present day (2014). The total ozone RF grows rapidly until the 1970s, slows towards the 2000s, and shows a renewed growth thereafter. Since the 1990s the shortwave RF exceeds the longwave RF.
Who Will (Most Likely) Not Be Competing At the 2020 Tokyo Games
It seems as though the 2016 Olympics in Rio were just yesterday, but the reality is that we’re already well on our way to being 2 years removed from the last edition of the Summer Games. We’re now less than 900 days away from the 2020 edition set for Tokyo and, although we don’t know yet who will be competing, based on retirement announcements, we know which medalists from 2016 will most likely not.

Plummer was a 2008 grad for the Golden Gophers, earning 14 All-America honors and a pair of Big Ten runner-up finishes. His most notable results, though, came well after graduating. Plummer was a heartbreaking Trials third in 2012, missing the Olympic team despite putting up a time that would have won silver in London.

Masculinity and terror: the missing conversation
Recent coverage of counterterrorism raids in Australia featured hard-core gyms, anabolic steroids, nightclub bouncers, gangs and weapons. Footage from the Middle East regularly depicts truckloads of young bearded warriors bristling with ordnance. Is this a view of masculinity that merely happens to be violent? Or does masculinity actively underwrite and sustain extremist movements?
