Letter: Ethics can be a politician's nightmare
To the editor, In 2018, the people passed an initiated measure to establish an Ethics Commission, which brought outrage and indignation from our elected officials. In 2019, the legislators who despised the very word “ethics” attacked the people of North Dakotans for Public Integrity for challenging their authority and establishing a new constitutional amendment, Article XIV. Those legislators cried foul, arguing that they had their own ethics rules and could police themselves.

Letter: Use Legacy money to build a real legacy
North Dakota has a legacy of public enterprise to develop and ensure the future of our rural economies through wise nonpartisan investing. Our elected officials have become dangerously frugal, now relying on foreign and out of state corporate investors to mill our farm commodities and refine our natural resources. This frugality is costing the state and taxpayers billions in lost revenue.
Grand Forks' handling of Fufeng milling project is perfect example - of what not to do
It makes sense that leaders in Grand Forks, North Dakota, a city in the heart of farm country, seek to bolster its economy by encouraging agricultural companies to build there. My hope is that the Grand Forks Region Economic Development Corporation lands a deal with a company that is mutually beneficial to farmers, the city and community residents.

Should we ask lawmakers to subsidize N.D. newspapers?
Our country was founded on the principle of a well- informed, educated public where all citizens could be involved in deciding their destiny. Freedom of the press is a constitutional right. Ben Franklin called newspapers “the watch dogs of society,” and society needs good watch dogs with long teeth now more than ever. Freedom and democracy are under attack by unscrupulous politicians and the well-funded corporations that own them.

Letter: Shaw's column on the implementation of ND's ethics measure was spot-on
Jim Shaw’s May 25th column titled, “The Unethical Implementation of the Ethics Measure” was spot-on. It was not inaccurate as claimed in a letter published by politician Scott Louser, who was vice-chair of the House Special Committee on Ethics that intentionally gutted what citizens approved last fall as Article XIV to the North Dakota Constitution.
Letter: North Dakota's shadow government
The North Dakota Legislature is in town spending taxpayer dollars, studying over 900 bills ranging from forcing religion on everyone to determining if artificial meat is really meat. There is a force at work behind the scenes away from the view of the press and the citizenry that is in control of our state government. It is the American Legislative Exchange Commission, or ALEC for short.
It’s time to work together for ND
By David Schwalbe from Bismarck Today at 6:53 a.m. The election is over. Now is the time to put aside all of the campaign rhetoric we have heard from all the parties. After all the bloviating is done and all the post-election analysis is finished we all still remain North Dakotans. It is time to reach out and shake hands and put all the campaign talk behind us and move forward together united as one people to make North Dakota the most respected state in the nation.
