Rural Electric Co-ops and the Future of American Energy
Rural electric cooperatives (co-ops) can play a significant role in shaping successful deployment of the energy infrastructure that will power an American economy that is demanding more electricity. As nonprofit utilities owned and governed by the members they serve, co-ops are deeply rooted in many rural communities. Yet they are sometimes overlooked in national energy conversations. In 2024, they served just 15% of US utility electricity sales.

Season of Hits Planned for Lyric Stage - Berkshire Fine Arts
A friendship on the verge of a breakdown. One family’s desperate attempt to find the good times amid hardship. A brother and sister finding joy in their differences. A disastrous acting troupe trying desperately to make it to the final curtain. A new “classic” gem of the American musical theater. And then there’s Dolly. As the curtain comes up on our 2024/25 season, we find there is much to celebrate when we examine the many ways in which human beings connect (or fail to do so) with each other.

In 1936, the New Deal’s Rural Electrification Act funded the creation of rural electric cooperatives (co-ops), and expanded access to electricity for rural America.

It is a live mirror on society that each viewer holds singly. Your experience as a human informs your experience of a play in text or onstage.

Home / Featured Content / 20 Tips for Selling Your Novel, Part Four: The Business of Writing Once your submission get bites, you have some thinking to do. 15. Sign with the right agent or editor If you get an offer from an agent or an editor, it will be thrilling. But don’t leap without looking. Have a good conversation with the person who has expressed interest; try to get a feel for their personality, how they work, and what they expect. Ask them how they like to communicate.
20 Tips for Selling Your Novel, Part Three: Getting it Out There
Home / Featured Content / 20 Tips for Selling Your Novel, Part Three: Getting it Out There Once your draft is polished and ready to go, you need champions to bring your publishing dreams to fruition. 11. Do your homework on agents and publishers Just about the most self-defeating thing you can do is to submit blind to agents (or publishers) simply because you’re excited to have a book ready.
20 Tips for Selling Your Novel, Part Two: Writing the Draft
Home / Featured Content / 20 Tips for Selling Your Novel, Part Two: Writing the Draft If you’re ready to swap pre-writing for actual draft writing, it’s good to have some strategies for facing the tasks ahead. 5. Don’t sweat the whole book at once. As I mentioned in part one, some writers have trouble knowing where to start; some get out of the gate fast and then get stuck. The answer to both things is the same: don’t be wed to the idea that you must always write the book in order.
20 Tips for Selling Your Novel, Part One: Before You Begin
Home / Featured Content / 20 Tips for Selling Your Novel, Part One: Before You Begin So many people have sought me out to tell me that they have great ideas for books, but no clue how to make bring a book into the world. I felt the same way when I sold my first book 15 years ago. With my fifth and sixth books coming out in 2022, and a new manuscript heading out for submission, I’ve learned a lot since that sale. I’ve distilled those lesson into 20 tips for writing and selling your novel. 1.
Finding Family, Part Four: My Constellation
Will I recognize them? And how embarrassing will it be if I don’t? Despite having seen my sisters on Zoom and in photos, those were the thoughts in my head as I hurried up the jetway and followed signs from my gate to the terminal. What if I started off the weekend with a case of mistaken identity and rushed toward the wrong people? I had nothing to fear: my sisters looked exactly as I imagined…at least, facially. Physically, they were shorter than I expected, which is to say shorter than me.
Finding Family, Part Three: The Family We Choose
Imagine, if you will, that you have lived a half-century without knowing that you have a sibling. Imagine that your parents remained married until the day your beloved father died. And that you and your sister were the apples of his eye, daddy’s girls with no reason to doubt the size of your family. If you can imagine that, then you can imagine what it would be like to hear thirdhand that some of what you believed about your father wasn’t true. That is exactly what happened to my sisters.
Finding Family, Part Two: You Have Sisters
Iwas at dinner with one of my dearest friends when I saw the match, a relative AncestryDNA described with the tantalizingly vague phrase “close family.” After years of third or fourth cousin matches, their names always meaningless, I had not expected much. The closest match so far had been my brother’s eldest daughter, who AncestryDNA mislabeled as a first cousin, not niece (likely due to the fact her dad and I only shared one biological parent).
Finding Family, Part One: The Man Who Wasn’t There
The story of my family doesn’t begin with four Cuban men standing on a beach in Miami comparing feet, but some part of it is anchored there forever. It was one of a few moments in my childhood that could have revealed the truth, the existence of parallel life narratives starring two different fathers. It was a moment that at once said too much and too little, a blip in time that became key to the narrative a decade later.
I Graduated in the Pandemic and the Future Seems Hopeless
Home / Featured Content / I Graduated in the Pandemic and the Future Seems Hopeless Dear Other Dad, I am a 2021 College graduate, still paying off my college debt, and unable to find employment, other than gigs without health insurance amidst this pandemic. I don’t see a future for myself nor for my peers. What if nothing changes? How can I still choose joy?
How Can I Get My Dad To Stop Hugging Me?
Home / Featured Content / How Can I Get My Dad To Stop Hugging Me? Dear Other Dad — I’m having an issue with one of my dads. He knows I don’t like to give hugs, but he thinks that rule applies only to people outside our family and that I should still hug him. I told him when I was 10 that I’m not a hugger (I’m 15 now). Sometimes he’ll listen but mostly not. His family is very touchy — like his mom still pats him on the butt even though he’s 50. So I know why he thinks physical affection is important.
Should I Let My 13-Year-Old Skip the Vaccine?
Home / Featured Content / Should I Let My 13-Year-Old Skip the Vaccine? Dear Other Dad — My husband and I are in a fight. I told my 13-year-old son he could choose whether or not to get vaccinated. He chose not to. (We’re both vaccinated, so this is not an anti-vax thing.) I let him choose because it’s not 100% safe for him to have the shot, with all the heart stuff, and I don’t want to be responsible for putting him at risk. My husband is furious because he thinks we should have made the decision.
Should I Let My Kid Take Student Loans - While I’m Still Paying Mine?

My Friend Is Suicidal and It’s Killing Me.
Dear Other Dad — My friend is suicidal and I’m trying to be there for him. I’m up till 4 or 5 in the morning every day talking to him to make sure he’s good. But it’s killing me. I can’t keep up with work or school. But he’s one of my closest friends and I can’t lose him. — Exhausted This is an incredibly stressful situation to be in and simply talking about it with others is a good start, because you need a release value for the pressure that is building up inside you.

Can I Be a Drag Queen Safely in a Red State?
Home / Featured Content / Can I Be a Drag Queen Safely in a Red State? Dear Other Dad — Where is it a good idea to go drag queening? I live in a red state. — Tobi12 When I first read your question, I wasn’t sure if you were serious. “Drag queening” (which makes it sound like a sparkly cousin to dry cleaning) isn’t really the common term for what you’re talking about — doing drag — and I wondered if it might be a joke question, of which I get a fair number.
I’m Christian and My School Is Liberal About Everything Except Me.
Home / Featured Content / I’m Christian and My School Is Liberal About Everything Except Me. Dear Other Dad — I’m a conservative Christian. My school is almost all liberals and they’re accepting of everything except me. I didn’t do anything to them but they talk about my religion like it makes me stupid. How do I get through this? — Believer Being the outsider to the majority is always hard — no matter what the majority is.

It Was a Big Deal When I Came Out. Now How Do I Go Back In?
Home / Featured Content / It Was a Big Deal When I Came Out. Now How Do I Go Back In? Dear Other Dad, When I came out of the closet, it was a huge deal. My parents weren’t excited about it (esp. my dad) and they didn’t want me to tell other people at first. Eventually they came around and met my boyfriend (who I really loved at the time). They let me hang up pride stuff and my Mom went to Pride (which was a LOT for her). My problem is that lately I’m not sure I am gay.
Why Do My Kids Hate America?
Dear Other Dad — Fourth of July was a disaster. My kids didn’t want flags up and they gave me a hard time about wearing red, white, and blue. I let them put up their pride flags in June, so why can’t they do this for me? When did loving my country become a bad thing? — 4thBlues You are not alone in seeing a generational shift away from embracing the American flag. Gen Z has the lowest rates of self-identified patriotism among all demographics, a title once held by their predecessors, millennials.

Mom: Your Clothes Are Too Sexy. Daughter: Get Over It.
Home / Featured Content / Mom: Your Clothes Are Too Sexy. Daughter: Get Over It. This topic is like a minefield: there are loaded opinions on all sides. The language that gets thrown around (“slutty” and “trashy” vs “shaming” and “oppressive”) positions the recipient in a bad light and puts the speaker on a moral high ground — in both directions. The discussion often pits women against each other — mothers and daughters, girls and their friends.

How To Come Out in America, 1992 Edition
It is November 1992. George H. W. Bush is President, but not for much longer. The biggest song in America is “I Will Always Love You” and Whitney nails it, but you liked it just fine when it was still just your hero, Dolly Parton, and her guitar. Hee Haw has ended and Absolutely Fabulous has begun but you will not hear of it for a few more years, when you see the VHS tape in the library and become obsessed. Malcolm X is sharing movie theaters with Mighty Ducks; they are never a double bill.
How Can I Share My Dark Past Without Traumatizing My Kid?
Home / Featured Content / How Can I Share My Dark Past Without Traumatizing My Kid? Dear Other Dad — I’ve been wondering about how parents can safely share their own histories of trauma/abuse without harming their kids. I’m grappling with how my mother shared her history of sexual abuse with me when I was 13, which resulted in me experiencing some trauma as well, especially since it was being shared as a way for me to help her carry the burden of her own unresolved trauma.
I Want To Be Body Positive but I Hate My Body
Home / Featured Content / I Want To Be Body Positive but I Hate My Body Dear Other Dad — I really want to model body positivity — especially because my little sister and brother look up to me and I know they learn from how I act. But I hate my body. It’s not that I’m FAT fat. I just don’t like what I see and it’s hard to hide that. How do I change this? Big Sister Issues I hope you know that you are not alone in wrestling with this seeming contradiction.
Do I Have to Respect Pronouns…if the Pronoun Is ‘It’?
Home / Featured Content / Do I Have to Respect Pronouns…if the Pronoun Is ‘It’? Dear Other Dad — My child has a friend who uses the pronoun “it.” Using this pronoun is incredibly difficult for me in a different way than learning how to use they/them. There is no instance in which you do not use someone’s pronouns, but I have a lot of feelings about using this pronoun for a human.
My 13-Year-Old’s Sexy Hashtag Is Killing Me
Home / Featured Content / My 13-Year-Old’s Sexy Hashtag Is Killing Me Dear Other Dad — Following a TikTok trend, my daughter has started using the hashtag #bipride and posted pictures of her with her female friends. I’m not comfortable with her talking about sexuality in a public forum — she’s 13 and isn’t even at a point to be sexual herself. She says this is not about sex. How do I help her see that it is? — Mom There are two reasons you and your daughter can’t see eye to eye on this.

Home / Featured Content / I’m Asian and My White Mom Doesn’t Understand the Racism I Face Dear Other Dad, I live on the East coast with my white family but I am adopted from Asia. Having a conversation with my mom in particular about race has become increasingly more difficult and she doesn’t understand/believe me when I tell her something racist has happened to me because her definition of racism is not up to date.
My Straight Kid Is Flying the Gay Flag on Social Media — and I Want Her To Stop - The Good Men Project
Home / Featured Content / My Straight Kid Is Flying the Gay Flag on Social Media — and I Want Her To Stop Dear Other Dad — My child, who says she’s not gay, posted photos of herself with the gay pride flag on Instagram because she said it will get her more followers.
