As a transportation and ag journalist, I "cover the waterfront"--that is, the inland barge and towing sector--for The Waterways Journal, a trade weekly that has published continuously since 1887. Time spent as a merchant seaman on both "blue water" and "brown water" vessels gave me a familiarity with the industry.

I have contributed to bi-weekly farm journal High Plains Journal that targets farmers and their suppliers in the Upper Midwest.

I taught college literature and writing at a small private college while holding various full-time jobs in communications and writing.

My freelance articles have appeared in St. Louis magazine, First Things, The New Atlantis, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and elsewhere.

As a freelance writer my interests include all aspects of the food chain, energy, agricultural technology, higher education, shipping and maritime news, and the future of work.
