Six violent deaths across the country, including that of a Vallejo landlord and a U.S. Border Patrol agent in Vermont, have been connected to people associated with a fringe offshoot of a Bay Area-based intellectual movement, according to interviews, court filings and social media posts. The case is dizzying. Federal prosecutors said Teresa Youngblut, accused of killing Border Patrol agent David Maland in Coventry, Vt., near the U.S.-Canada border on Jan.

An atmospheric river that has brought rain, snow and winds to California’s far north earlier this week has steadily increased its impact on the greater Bay Area on Friday. The National Weather service issued flash flood warnings for San Francisco and large swaths of the East Bay including Oakland, Berkeley, Richmond and Alameda. In the afternoon, a rain band lingered over the Santa Cruz Mountains, San Francisco and Oakland for 90 minutes.

As far as celebrity superfans go, it’s hard to top the Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks, which have had Hollywood elites like Jack Nicholson and Spike Lee watching from courtside for decades. The Golden State Warriors have had starpower on the sidelines with comedian Dave Chappelle, rapper Drake and even the late Prince in attendance over the years. Fans even saw Oakland-bred Zendaya and boyfriend Tom Holland at San Francisco’s Chase Center for a playoff game last year.
