Could Growth Choke without Digital Commitments in FTAs? India’s services exports have shown phenomenal growth, surpassing India’s merchandise exports in recent past. New global developments, including the usage of artificial intelligence, information technology, rising digital restrictiveness and standards, may slow down its growth in the absence of appropriate digital policies and commitments.

A Study of Global Value Chain Implications for Selected Sectors Since 2014, India has been raising tariffs in various sectors. This paper explores the responsiveness of imports to tariff hikes for specific tariff lines and investigates the effect on production, value added and India’s changing nature of participation in global value chains. We find that while production and value added by India have increased for all sectors, the share of production exported has decreased.

India’s impressive performance in automotive global value chains, due to stellar exports of traditional internal combustion engine intermediates and vehicles, is being challenged by the electric mobility revolution worldwide. This article delves into the challenges that India should overcome to feature in greener auto GVCs of the future.
