Best of 2025: Delicate Steve Was Really Into Warren Zevon
Excitable Boy by Warren Zevon was my favorite of the year. Warren Zevon is a great songwriter. This is a great album. Warren knows how to do it. When an album has this many great songs on it — “Johnny Strikes Up the Band,” “Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner,” “Excitable Boy,” “Accidentally Like a Martyr,” “Veracruz,” and “Lawyers Guns and Money,” and the outtake “I Need a Truck”… They’re all top level. “Werewolves,” too.
Live From Luke’s Garage, It’s Luke Temple and Delicate Steve
Delicate Steve, aka Steve Marion, is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter based in LA; Luke Temple is a singer-songwriter and producer also based in LA, who’s fronted the bands Here We Go Magic and Luke Temple and the Cascading Moms, and performs solo as Art Feynman. Steve’s new record, Luke’s Garage, was recorded at Luke’s studio — which is also where they recorded the following conversation. Here, they talk about recording routines, the elusiveness of songwriting, and more.

The Ah (Star Rover, Delicate Steve, David Byrne, drummer Jeremy Gustin) premieres “I Changed Colour” video from forthcoming Common Bliss cassette
Anyone who has heard Jeremy Gustin’s drum work with the (largely) instrumental acts Delicate Steve and with his own Star Rover project knows he can hit kits like a ton of bricks…if each brick in that ton was made of ten brick-like sticks: SKRONK, SPLAP, SPLORK AAHT AAHHT BLOOOT, SPUTZ SPITZA CHUKKUNK CLUNK, TING KATOONG PLAPF, UNKLIK ULK, ZZIP, SHMUZORFT, POFFISSS… (thanks MAD Magazine!).

A Day in the Life with the Hardest Working Guitarist in Brooklyn
Hi, I am Steve. I am known as Delicate Steve to many. I live in Brooklyn. I play guitar. I play guitar in my band, which is called Delicate Steve. My album This Is Steve came out last year and I did a lot of touring behind the release of the record. Sometimes I play guitar in the studio with other artists: Paul Simon, Yeasayer, Sondre Lerche to name a few. And sometimes I hop on stage with my guitar for a song or two: Built To Spill, Dr. Dog, Mac DeMarco, Dirty Projectors, and others.
Brent's Music Picks: Drive-By Truckers, Delicate Steve
The latest album by alt-country rockers Drive-By Truckers, “American Band,” is that rare 21st-century artifact – a protest album that would have fit as easily in 1967 as 2017. The Neil Young-ish song “Surrender Under Protest” takes on the Black Lives Matter movement with direct focus (“Does the color really matter/On the face you blame for failure”).
