Josiah Harris, 15, was shot and killed by a 14-year-old neighbor the evening of June 30 in the 1200 block of Packard Drive in Akron. Josiah's dog, a Cane Corso, mistook the neighbor boy for an intruder when the boy entered the house without knocking and tried to defend the home, Alexis said.

Metro RTA union members deciding whether to authorize strike

June 30, 2026, 3:41 p.m. ET Transport Workers Union Local 1 President Wayne Cole said Metro RTA employees striking isn't preferable to a fair contract, "but at some point you have to draw a line for your dignity." The union, which represents Metro's bus operators, vehicle service workers and clerical workers, spent June 30 conducting a strike authorization vote at its union hall after lengthy contract negotiations with management collapsed.

Rupture sends column of water into sky near I Promise School

This story has been updated with additional details. A water main rupture sent a gusher high into the air near the I Promise School on West Market Street in Akron during the June 29 evening commute. City crews were on the scene soon afterward to disable the waterline and begin repair work. West Market Street was closed between North Street and Oakdale Avenue. A ruptured water line gushes June 29 on West Market Street near the I Promise School and a Circle K station in Akron.
