But McCay, who had no prior arm injury history, endured two Tommy John surgeries and missed three seasons between 2020-23.

Kentucky Baseball Notebook: MLB Draft Decisions
The 2023 MLB Draft takes place from July 9-11 in Seattle. It’s an important time in college baseball as rosters for the 2024 season will be more precise in the days and weeks after the draft. Like most schools, Kentucky has a wide range of outcomes that will affect how the team is viewed next season. If it catches a few breaks and returns critical players who are draft eligible but not necessarily locks to sign for huge bonuses, it could project as a preseason top-15 team.

UK baseball back in hosting conversation after strong weekend
At Kentucky baseball’s media day in February, head coach Nick Mingione was asked what needed to happen for the program to move off the NCAA Tournament bubble discussion and solidly into the field of 64. “At the end of the year, two out of the last three years, we’ve been one or two wins away. Quite frankly, I’m tired of that,” Mingione said.
Kentucky baseball is good. We'll soon find out just how good
We can definitively say at this point — and honestly, before now — that Kentucky coach Nick Mingione has a good baseball team in Lexington. The Wildcats just finished a sweep of Missouri to improve to 25-3 overall and 8-1 in the SEC. It’s the first time Kentucky has won its first three series in league play since 2017, and per my unofficial research, it might be the best start ever in SEC play. Kentucky has lost one game since Feb.
Observations: UK takes season-opening series at Elon

Projecting Kentucky's pitching staff in 2023
A few months ago, while gathering my thoughts for this team, I scanned the roster and concluded that this might be the deepest pitching staff since I began covering the program in 2015. That doesn’t mean it will be Kentucky’s best staff – I want to make that clear up front – but there seem to be more legitimate options with SEC or college baseball experience this year than most years prior. With that said, there are two big things we don’t know about this year’s team yet.
Darren Williams is healthy. What does that mean for Kentucky's pitching staff?
Darren Williams will be one of the oldest pitchers in college baseball this season. He could also be one of the most important on Kentucky’s pitching staff. The seventh-year senior was recently cleared to return to all baseball activities following his recovery from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent in May 2022 to repair a torn UCL in his right elbow. It was an unfortunate injury for both Williams and the Wildcats.
Kentucky completes season sweep of Vanderbilt Original

The Wildcats improved to 18-4 overall and 7-2 in Southeastern Conference play while completing a season sweep over the Commodores. Kentucky has now won 12 straight games against Vanderbilt. “It was a really physical game. The screens, you were getting leveled,” UK coach John Calipari said. “You look at the numbers, you would say wow.
