It’s a winter evening in Stratford, East London, and past the cemetery, just down from the corner shop, on a quiet street with terraced houses on one side and a council block on the other, reggae sound systems are battling for supremacy. In the spartan main room at Hibiscus Community Centre, home to the local Caribbean elderly association, Earthquake Sound, Soul Energy Musiq and RBF Soundsystem are laying down their toughest riddims for a knowledgeable, multicultural all-ages crowd.
